as my mum had a letter sayin they wanted her to do it... she deferred it to a LATER DATE as it clashed with her holiday to france she booked months ago but they sent a letter back sayin she still has to do it...
is there a way out of doin it because i heard u get a £1000 fine if u refuse...
i cant see why anyone should have to do it if they dont want to... Isnt that a breach of human rights as the immigrants get away with things all the time using the human rights act
thanks for your help :o)

If they say she has to do it then she has to do it.
You say she deferred it, so they have accomodated her by doing that, and she has to go at the deferred date.
Only way out of it is SERIOUS illness, or maybe a death in the family.
Not going WILL lead to her being fined.

If she is out of pocket she will get expenses, she should also charge for loss of holiday as she will be unable to go. The court is supposed to reimburse all expenses including loss of wages, so the loss for a holiday comes in as I presume that she will not be reimbursed by the travel agents or tour operator. best to load the expenses in advance and then she will probably be put onto a later service.
Alternatively become a seafarer as they are not required to do jury service.

Maybe if you declare that you believe the drug prohibition laws are un-Constitutional (which they are) and that, as a supporter of FIJA, you know what your rights are and plan to exercise them.
Sad thing is, is most people don't -- for if people were, liberty would stand a better chance against usurpation in the USA.

Its got nothing to do with HUman Rights, and I do wish people would actually take the time to read the Human Rights Acts before spouting they are being breached as 99% of the time they are not!
All adults over the age of 18 on the electoral roll, are required to make themselves available for jury service unless they are in one of the occupations exempt or are exempt for other specific reasons, yes people are allowed to defer, but only the once, the website below is all about UK jury service
I also do not understand why anyone would want to be excused for doing their duty to the crown

Your mum can tell them that she is the only source of income for her family and cannot afford to serve, as it will take food from her children

This tells you : http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/infoabout/jury_service/faqs.htm
I'm surprised they declined to defer her, normally a pre-booked holiday is acceptable; you sure the court service were given all the info?

Here in The United States of America, it is a privilege. But because of the liberals and the aclu loonies, all you have to do is stand and simply state " I believe in the right to bear arms and the death penalty- with no questions asked" You WILL be dismissed.

Have her say that she hates blacks, jews, terrorists, men, and... dogs. ANd that should get her kicked out of any jury in the universe.

I would send in her itinerary and receipts for her holiday. Unless they want to reimburse her those expenses I dont think it is unreasonable to request a later date.
