Stress and worries can bring about some crazy dreams! But not all scary stuff in dreams indicate something scary; the language is different. There may be a hidden message of hope in the dream to help you through your worries. I would love to read your dreams for you. It helps to alleviate your fears once you've learned the dream's indication. :D

It sounds like, if they're happening immediately when you go to sleep, that they could possibly be night terrors.

Speak with your doctor and see if he has some suggestions for you. Let him know of any meds you are taking as this can be a side-effect of some.

You might also try: engaging only in pleasant activities after dinner - skip watching horror films, scary t.v. shows, the news.

There are also meditation tapes you can get that can be of some help. Sounds True offers one called "Anxiety Relief" that may help you be in a better state as you fall asleep.

Read on the internet about night terrors and see if this is what you think you have so you can let your dr. know if this is a fit.

I had the same problem as you between 15 and 18. My nightmares were so horrible that I was scared to go sleeping, just as you.
For example, I dreamt someone drowned me in a swimming pool and cut my fingers, or that I was in a cemetery and all the deads were pursuing me...

Find out what memory is pursuing you, or what is currently terrorising you. If you can't do it alone, ask your family for help. And do not hesitate to sleep beside someone else you trust.

For my case, it started to stop as I started to become more self-confident and when thinking my bad memories didn't stroke me that much (since my "teenagehood" was quite tough).

Now, this may be an old wives tale, however, I have been told that when you go to bed on a full stomach, the brain overacts while your sleeping, sometimes causing nightmares. What is your diet like these days?

Figure out what reawakened the nightmares. Perhaps something disturbed you when you were little, and there's some kind of unresolved issue there. If so, you should solve this issue.

Nightmares in general are caused by subconscious turmoil, I believe.

it could be that you have buried issues from your childhood that are coming into play, usually something in your life will cause them to resurface, i was molested when i was little and had blocked it out, it wasn't until i was an adult, and my niece was molested that it resurfaced and i had to deal with it. you may have had something happen when you were young and something is causing it to come out. until you find what it is you will probably continue to have nightmares.
