My wife is having second thoughts about breast feeding our unborn daughter because she heard that breast fed babies have darker lips than bottle fed babies. Can someone help me out with this?

no, that's no true. breastfeeding is the best thing you can do for a baby. why would it matter even if they did get darker lips?

That is just a myth. Nursing does not change the pigment in the skin, especially where the lips are concerned. Tell your wife to ignore that kind of talk, & go ahead & breast feed your baby. It's so much better for the baby, as it's easily digested, cheaper than formula, etc. I breastfed & no dark lips for him.

This is not true at all. Probably some evil rumor from the formula companies... breast is best and i hope your wife decides to nurse. I breastfeed my two babies, and their lips are normal. She should be more concerned with the facts that her baby could get diabetes or be an overweight person which are all things that can happen with formula feeding.

I have one child that I was unable to breastfeed, and another that I breastfed for a year and a half. The one that wasn't breastfed is absolutely no different than the on that was. As a matter of fact the one that wasn't breastfed has a darker complexion, and therefore darker lips. That is nonsense.

Never heard that one.
Breast feeding is the best for baby, and mom. So convenient, no bottles to warm up in the night.
And the baby's jaw will be better formed, or so I've heard.

I've never heard of that. I breastfed all four af mine and they all have beautiful lips! Anyways, don't let a silly myth keep her from doing something that will benefit both baby and mother. There's a lot of myths as well as facts that she should read up on. Please tell her not to worry and she can use all the moms on this site who have breastfed, as support!

That's not true.

You should definitely breastfeed if you're able. Even if it were true, what difference does dark lips and light lips make? Your baby will still be adorable and wonderful, no matter what color her lips are - this seems ridiculous to me....I hope she wasn't basing that decision on vanity reasons.

Breastfeeding is the best way to nourish your baby. I wasn't able to, but I hope to with the next one someday. Definitely go that route.
