Escherichia coli (E. coli)
These organisms could be found most commonly in lower intestines of mammels (colon) as normal flora bacteria

It was studied by them in a bacteria E.coli in 1961. lac operon is an induced operon which normally remains inactive and is induced by lactose when it is present in the medium in which E.coli is present.Hence the bacteria starts producing lactase enzyme to convert lactose into glucose and galactose.
