The Bad Plus... a modern jazz trio that does original material, but also covers everything from Nirvana to Aphex Twin.
Deerhoof... bizarre but original art rock.
Arcade Fire... alternative, in the best sense of the word. Their songs are by turns despairing, passionate, and joyful.
The Books... difficult to categorize. They create fascinating sound-sample landscapes.
