Yesterday I was walking to my dorm and witnessed a group of white male students inside an extremely expensive vehicle (It was an SUV, I think maybe a BMW) shout the "N" word at a black female simply walking on the sidewalk minding her own business. She looked as stunned as I felt. I wanted to say something to her and try to alleviate the situation but I couldn't do anything. Anyhow, the reason I am asking this is because it isn't the first time I have seen whites openly engage in racist behavior against others on this campus. I guess it is my own fault for choosing a school in east Texas. However, this was not what I signed up for and I am hoping that maybe there is another school that is not so bad.

Unfortunately Racism is every where... It's very sad that there are still so many ignorant people in this world.. I think no matter what college you go to it will be the same... I find the only solution is to make sure you don't ever do it in any form, and make sure the people you associate with you don't take part in it.. I let it known the very 1st statement i hear and people quickly get the idea that I won't stand for that in my pressence.

What is scary is when you try to contemplate what kind of home these boys come from. What political/social education they are getting from their parents, community, church etc.
They are just a reflection of a much wider problem. You do not have to move out of Texas or the South to get a more diverse and less intolerant college campus. Try colleges in the larger cities, Dallas, Houston etc.

Texas is part of the South, which is known for being slow to give up racism.
California is much better for this, if anyone behaves like that there everyone knows they're from somewhere else. There are tons of people of widely varying origins there, and besides, CA has a culture of tolerance. You're *supposed* to be different.
Go West , young man, go West.

you're area of the greater youthful technology and you ought to be conscious that an significant quantity of attempt became spent to coach you kindness, openness, and so directly to you at college as you grew up. additionally, it relies upon on who you have come into touch with. a guy or woman who's preached to approximately tolerance yet has in no way unquestionably had to satisfy/work together with somebody different that him/her will behave in a different way from somebody who DOES meet in many cases with those of different races.

hate crimes are so vapid on college campus. Take sheltered folks and put them in a multicultural environment, there are bound to have problems. It really saddens me too. It happened while I was in college in the Midwest a lot. I think it's important to encourage diversity in friendships, clubs, study partners to learn about others culture and thus 'humanize' others.

They're a bunch of immoral KKK. We live in the 21st century, and still there are people with minds of 1500's. What a shame. Racism and bigotry are, unfortunately, everywhere.
