Beats me. I work in a restaurant and it gets really busy. As if that weren't stressful enough the boss runs around yelling like the world will end or we lose lives if the food is not up. I have as much of a sense of urgency as anyone and I know that customers are paying for a product but I have to take a step back sometimes and remind myself that it is just food.

because by and large, managers are incompetent. It's rare to find one that takes an educated approach to people management.

Business is a very 'male' environmet, competition, survival of the fittest, all that. People who raise in rank in this environment consider anything related to the psychological well being of the group as 'touchy-feely', beneath their considtion. Too bad, because job stress costs us billions.

Also, watch out for the stupid-chain. The stupid chain happens when an incompetent person gets a high position, he then hires someone dumber than him as his next in command. Then that guy does the same. So you get a chain of command where each person is stupider than the last, an no one threatens their boss. They survive by bullying. Bullying is always the tool of the dull-witted. It's amazing how long stupid-chains can survive.

Some employers (less than 10%) are at least trying to create a positive work environment. Look for those companies, don't try and change the one you are in or you won't be in that company very long.

Becaues their job is just as stressful. Trust me, I work in an office full of idiots and when things are not going their way...everyone in the office feels the ripple affect.

My best advice...find some good music at pandara.com and tell them to suck on an egg :)

Truthfully, an employer owes you *NOTHING* but a paycheck for services rendered. It is a competitive world out there and not all of you can start at the top like you think you are entitled. Think about it.

i think the reason why some employers "do" that is because of "competition".
competition "dictates" the employers and employees to do "more" than what the employees can actually produce to keep up with the pace. companies cant afford to be left behind by their competitors. :)
