Pavel Bure know as the Russian Rocket was drafted 113th overall, 1989 by the Vancouver Canucks. earlier in his career he hit a rut behind the net and that started a bad knee injury. Bure is in the HOCKEY NEWS TOP 100 players to ever play the game of hockey, his name is up with players such as Howie Morenz, Aurial Juliat, Marice "The Rocket" Richard, Gordie Howe, Jean Beliveau, Ken Dryden, Guy Lafleur, Bobby Orr, Wayne Gretzky, Patrick Roy and Mario Lemieux. there are more to be mentioned. with this injury to Bure that slowed him down but he was still one of the best ever to score goals and he had speed like nobody else before or after him. Ovechkin yes is a great young player and had a terrific rookie season but to compare this two is not a right question cause Bure even with his injury he was able to rake up 437 goals in only 702 games. ALL-TIME GOALS PER GAME at 0.62 ranked 3rd behind Mike Bossy 1st and Mario Lemieux 2nd. Pavel Bure had 60 points his rookie year but was injured but his second season he had 60 goals and 110 points.

poeple you have to remember Bure had a knee injury ealry in his career and he still raked up the points.

hands down Pavel Bure is the winner.

GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Pretty darn similar actually. Ovechkin may backcheck a little more. I used to watch a game within a game when I watched Bure, I would count how many times I actually saw him inside his own blue line, it wasn't very many. He was fast as the wind and got a ton of breakaways but didn't care less about backchecking. While I see that with Ovechkin, I don't see it as much.
Also, can you imagine Bure now without the 2 line pass. He wouldn't come back past center?? -LOL.

Well it' still not a wright time yet to compare them , Alex still have to prove his qualities , but so far he is a much more team player and he has more passion for the game. So I say Alex Ovechkin is better player then Pavel Bure.

Ovechkin still has a few more years to go to prove he's as capable as Bure. If he keeps up his present play, he should surpass Pavel down the road.

Aren't you getting a little ahead of yourself? Ovechkin barely has two years in the pros and you're trying to compare him to someone who has had an entire career. You have no idea what could happen to Ovechkin. He could get an injury that sidelines him indefinitely/makes him slower/hurts his playmaking ability.

With that in mind, I think Ovechkin has the potential to be leaps and bounds better than Pavel Bure.

Bure was great. But he was also soft.
For Alexander to be considered better he needs to stay healthy and perform consistantly.
Right now it's not a fair comparison.
The potential is there.

For those who say Bure was soft or a whimp obviously never watched any Canucks games. Bure had quite the temper.
