My Dr. put me on yaz. I've been on it for about a week now and I can't seem to control my emotions. Someone asked me if I was bipolar the other day. Is it normal? Does anyone else have this problem.

(Note) I am going to go see my Dr. next week so no need to tell me that just answer the question please.

My guess is that it is your hormones changing. Your body is getting used to the new med. I think if you give it some time it will work itself out and you will be ok. Good luck.

I am also currently taking Yaz and I totally understand the bipolar feeling. Before Yaz I was taking Yasmin and I was nuts...I couldn't stop crying and I was so irritable. I've been on Yaz for about 8 months now and at first I didn't see any change in my emotions but now I am fine for the most part. I was actually asked if I was bipolar too. In my opinion you will probably adjust in a few weeks and you will feel better. Until then just ask family and friends to bear with you, it's just something you can't help. Your doctor may prescribe you something else but if he or she thinks you are on the best pill just hang in there and I'm sure you will get to feeling better!
Good Luck!

YES - I took Yaz for 2 1/2 months and it made me absolutely CRAZY. It almost ruined my relationship because I was absolutely paranoid and convinced my boyfriend was out to get me. Seriously - stop taking Yaz. I stopped taking it mid-cycle because I couldn't stand it any longer. I would even wake up in the middle of the night crying and have no idea why. My doc told me I'd need to be on an anti-depressant while on Yaz, even that didn't help. Plus, I had migraines every day on top of horrible intestinal problems. Yaz could have ruined my life.

First off it is not that you are bi-polar.. You can't all of a sudden become bi-polar. My sister is bi-polar and it is progressed over time. However, if you read your prescription insert it will more then likely mention that mood swings are possible as well with any hormonal medication. The side effects last about 2-3 weeks, by the time you start your next set of pills. Be patient and if you don't see an improvement with your next set then question. However, seeing your doctor is a wise decision just to make sure the dosage is not to high for you.

Again the emotions are perfectly normal.

Bipolar disorder is simply a chemical disorder of the brain. It can cause manic/depressive episodes of different intensities in each person afflicted with it. It is not caused by medication. It is also controllable with medication, and knowledge of your triggers. My husband has had it his entire life, and is controlled by meds and both of us have read up on it,and learned how to deal with it. Try not to diagnose yourself until you have seen your doctor. I have been through very emotional episodes in my life, sometimes lasting for weeks,so you are doing the right thing by consulting a doc. Good luck.
