Purely speculation. Do you think we would have shootouts at the local strip malls? Do you think our country would look and run much as it does now?

If we withdrew the 130K Soldiers from Iraq and used them to shore up our local defenses, would that be adequate to protect the citizenry?

I think the U.S. would look exactly as it does now. People confuse Iraqi insurgents with international terrorists. Terrorists don't have a war plan. They strike suddenly, without thinking it through, and with no regard for how what they're doing affects others.

The insurgents are actually fighting a war - right or wrong, they perceive the U.S. to be an oppressing outside force invading their nation, and they're fighting against it.

They are NOT the same people who attacked this country.

Will given the fact that they only way terrorists could get to the US is either my commerical airline or cargo ships both of which the US military would easily blow up in the air or on the ocean I don't think the terrorists would ever even make it to US soil. Ever heard the term "Defense wins Championships" NFL coaches use it all the time. Imagine how much easier it would be blowing away terrorists trying to get into the US than trying to kill them in Iraq where US troops have no idea who the terrorists are? A terrorist could walk right past US troops in Iraq but the moment he leaves Iraq he becomes a much easier target to kill.

NO there wouldnt be a a battlefield by any means. Nobody would ever invade the US, not only is there a huge safety net involving land sea and air vehicles that would destroy any landing force long before they reached our shores, but also, almost every citizen here has a gun. Pulling out to place troops at local watchstanding positions would provide little help. As you know, the terrorist's strategy for unconventoinal warfare involves blending in with the public, then striking. Something that simply placing more troops around wont help.

By your logic, by fighting them "there", all terror attacks are going to happen over "there". So, that means that all the other "terror attacks" since the invasion and occupation in 2003....never happened...the "liquid bomb", etc etc. ..hmm interesting theory.
What if this is why there are insurgents....The Sunni minority ruled with iron fist on Shitte and now it's payback..hatfield/McCoy. Anbar area (Sunni) no oil, and Shite negotiating oil agreements with US and Brits. Guess what, we are making out pretty good on the deal. Sunnis are responsible for the majority of the violence. The "insurgency" may be slightly from historic rivals, but the Iraqis were inter-marrying, and tolerating their differences, until we came in dismantled their economy, their infrastructure, their middle class. Then, it became poverty, power struggle and money. You can't expect those 130K to protect you. They are reserve units for the most part, or mercenary. We can't sustain either. Maybe we will have to pay for what we have done there, and other places in the past. Sometimes, sometimes, bullies get punched in the gut. Watch 1984, Animal Farm, Farenheit 451. Read.

IF Iraq came to the USA they would not go through customs and normal borders. With millions of Mexicans crossing into the USA a few Iraqis could blend in very well there. Since Iraqis would be far outnumbered I think they would use planted bomb tactics and never have shootouts. I am sure it would indeed affect our daily routines. It would also affect the lives of dark skined people who look like Iraqis

130k soldiers was never enough to secure Iraq, as many
(now fired) generals told Donald Rumsfield and George W Bush

Regarding the terrorist following us home
BULLCRAP
We've already seen what cowards they are in the first Gulf War.
If they started anything here, muslims would be put on a boat and shipped out by the 1000's
Don't underestimate the American people
If it ever really comes to our country or freedom being at risk, all political differences will disappear

The battlefield would look like it does now, as we are at war with terrorists inside our borders. Preventing terrorist actions is more important then the number of troops we have at home. Lets face it, terrorists are not going to attack where the troops are. This is a big country. Where would we put these troops? All in New York, or one each in every town? I think we expect too much of our military.

We would see terrorist acts such as suicide bombers and car bombs in public places with the goal of damaging or destroying our economy
We would see water and food supplies targeted
We would see such things as commandeering of school buses
We would see the power grid targeted

All these things are possible now, but the islamofascists would have more resources to throw at them that they would no longer be expending in the middle east.

130K soldiers wouldn't matter. Some would still get in and it only takes one. Actually terrorists are most effective when they act alone with little chance of leaks or communications intercepts. They will be trained in how to make a bomb, poison, choose a target, etc, and then cut loose to do the deed.

edit: n cognito: the islamofascists don't care about our foreign policies. Their only goal is to convert you to islam or cut your head off. They want world-wide sharia law. Thats all, nothing more nothing less. Hope you like burqafashion.

It would be like a huge monster of a hurricane came in through the East and just kepted going and never held back the strength, maybe much like Gone with the Wind..when, Vivien Leigh walked through the battlefield and they were grabbing at her because she was going to get the doctor because Mellie was gonna have her baby and she was afraid to pass by for those hurt men who were wanting water and help. Just Aweful. millions on the ground unattended because not enough doctors and nurses to go around. Can you imagine?

At night you would be able to see where the masques used to be by the light of the fire consuming what is left of it. Americans would go vigilanti, all muslims suspected muslims, or those who looked like muslims, would be tracked down and dealt with. I guess you could say instead of playing cowboys and indians we would be playing cowboys and muslims. After a brief period of ethnic cleansing life would go on much as it is today,. Culturally there would be no downside as we do not embrace anything unique to the muslim culture.

The only way regular military troops could be used is under martial law. In that case life certainly would not run as it does now.

In truth, successful terrorist attacts result in, terror. People would be afraid. They would be afraid to travel, they would be afraid to congregate, they would be afraid to ride trains, they would be afraid to leave the house, they would be afraid to send the kids to school.

That is the point of terrorism. It makes you so scared that you loose faith in your own government's ability to protect you. Eventually, the hope is that you trade your now useless freedoms and capitulate to the terrorists.
