Some babies walk as early as seven or eight months. However, there is research to suggest that MOST babies are not physically ready for walking at this stage, and parents can do physical harm to the child by trying to 'force' it.

Girls tend to walk sooner than boys, in general. I walked around 8 1/2 months, and my friend's daughter did a modified spider crawl by 9 months. My son took a few steps around eight or nine months, but didn't actually walk until 13 or 14 months. He preferred to crawl :P

I don't remember when my children started to walk but my latest grandchild started walking without assistance at 12 months (a bit tottery at times). Walking should be a natural and shouldn't be forced since the bone/joint strength must be adequate to support the great increase in pressure from standing vertically.

At about 9 months. My son didn't walk until he was 14 months.

8 or 9 months. If the baby is strongh enough to stand or his feet there is no problem. But they say it is important that he craws before he star walking. Every Baby is different, maybe the mother or father did it too. May be it runs in the family.

I'm not sure. My mom said I was walking at 10 months, but my son didn't walk until 12 months. It varies, but I don't know what the young age possible is.

It was just on the national news yesterday about a baby walking at 6 mos. but they confirmed that just doesn't ever really happen! That said, 9 mos. is considered early and anywhere from 12 mos-15 mos is pretty average. My daughter walked just after her 1st bday.

The earliest on record is 6mths.
My son started at 8 1/2mths, actually walking by himself...he was crusing (holding on to furniture and walking) at 7 1/2mths.
Most babies are barely sitting up by themselves at 5mths, I find it hard to believe that he was crusing and standing at 5mths.
