Frequently, these aftermarket emblems are attached to the car with a flexible glue. Try heating up the item you want to remove with your wife/girlfriend's hair dryer, and see if you can just peel it off.

Use a hair drier. Warm a large area around the emblem. Concentrate the heat to the emblem & gently peal off. Works well for decals too.

Verrrry carefully. If it is a "glue on" type, which is usually the case, there are spray "adhesive removers" available. READ the labels carefully though, it must state "safe for painted surfaces"!!!

There's a product called Goo begone which ought to remove any sticky residue.
