I am going on my honeymoon in May and want somewhere beautiful and not cheesy and overcrowded. The gulf coast seemed the closest most tropical like place to drive.

Clearwater Beach is really beautiful, lots of good restaurants and few great restaurants close by.
We stayed at Sheppard's Beach Resort, the room wasn't fabulous but then we spent most of our time on the beach so it was OK. Sheppard's has a live band on Friday and Saturday and a DJ the rest of the time. We enjoyed our stay but it was our honeymoon also and just being with my wife made everything fabulous!
Congratulations and have fun!

Siesta Key is a little island off the coast of Sarasota 1 1/2 hrs south of Tampa. You can walk or bike to everywhere as well as Sarasota. There are two short bridges that connect the island to Sarasota. I lived there for six months. It is not crowded. The beach has super soft white sand (it reflects the sunlight and it doesn't burn your feet) and the water is turquoise. It is not like Daytona, Myrtle Beach, Key West, Panama City, ya know the typical. Also check out Lido Beach. But don't stay there (expensive) or swim there (lots of shark attacks). And Congratulations!
