My Acer laptop has a screen so dim you can barely see the desktop. Could it be the LCD Inverter? It is not the function key dimm switch. what does the LCD inverter do? Could it be something other than that?

Typically when the image is faint, but you can still see it - it's the inverter. This repair should cost $100 for the part plus 30 mins labor.

It could be the inverter or it could be the light source.

The inverter takes battery voltages and whacks it up to run a couple of fluorescent tubes in the display... so if either are failing then the light will get dark and the display will get darker.

It could also be a cable fault... if the wire is broken so the power doesn't get through. Or if it's an old DSTN screen the screen electronics may be dying.

Good luck! ACER is a ripoff of HP and I have never had good luck with their service or warranty. If fact I was told by the service department - on the third try to get a monitor repaired - that "we got your money and we don't care if it works or not! ACER is now on my PAY NO MIND TO list!

Is the laptop plugged in when it is dark? If not then change your power settings. It will use more battery power but it will brighten your screen. If it is happening when it is plugged in then get your laptop to a repair tech so they can fix it.
