sometimes I hate myself because I am so timid that I can't even say what I want to do.
In addition, I currently broke up with my boyfriend because of my problem. I feel like I'm a loser. I think I need to do something to solve this serious problem. what can I do? Help me

Hi Elle,
Being too timid must be very frustrating and lonely! I have found that I have had to work hard to make serious changes in my behavior. You need to force (and I do mean force) yourself into social situations.

Start with small groups...have a couple of people over for a snack and a movie. Stop the movie and talk about it...get opinions from others. Listen to what they have to say. Force yourself to add some comment. Turn the movie back on...serve the popcorn/chips and wait for another interesting or funny spot to stop the movie. Talk about it.

Go shopping (even if you don't buy a thing) talk to the clerks about prices, another size in an outfit...compliment the clerks outfit...get out there! What can you lose....they don't know you and will probably not remember you, anyway. You need to strengthen your courage. The only way to do this is to force yourself to be 'out there' around people A LOT!!

Every chance you get to speak to a clerk, waitress, Do it!!

Practice does make perfect. Your shyness will eventually slip away.

Most of us have some shyness...everybody totally loves a good listener...we are all 'just people' with a lot of fear, but in different areas.

You will grow out of this, but will have to take the steps...baby steps at first, then enjoy the limelight! :-)

Well I know it's a problem but try to get over it because you'll never have the things you want. The only way to get over it is to do exactly the opposite thing. If you can't visit a psychologist. But don't let it happening it can ruin your life.

Go Skydiving, It will give you the confidence you need to deal with problems. If nothing else you'll have a good time. If you can jump out of a plane what can't you do.

there is no easy answer to this. we are all afraid of something. the only way to get over something is to confront it. its only hard the first time. after that, you've done it!!! so it gets easier the next time. pick a goal. start out easy. when you have something in your mind that you want to do, like say hello to someone you know. set the goal in your head, go over it, then do it. the next person you see, it will be easier because you've already done it!!! after that, move onto bigger issues.
