Having both is best :) It's that competition thing that keeps them improving.
It depends on exactly what you want and which you're comfortable with. I'm a google girl myself, but until recently I ran a firefox extension to put the yahoo search results right on the google search page (sadly, the aggregate yahoo with google extension isn't compatible with the most recent version -- *sigh*)
dogpile is always a good option, too -- it returns results from multiple engines (yahoo, google, msn, & ask.com).

It would defintely be Google - its the most popular (with 20% more market share than Yahoo!). And obviously, if it is the favorite it means Google search results are relevant and useful. Yahoo! and MSN, I guess, never did focus solely on the web search industry like Google did when it started and hence lost the race to Google

In stocks and bussiness Google is killing Yahoo, but I find Yahoo better. However if I can't find what I'm looking for on yahoo, I use google. Plus, Yahoo's mail system is much better than Google. The only difference between them is that Google gives you more results.

In my opinion Google is a lot better. Google has a lot more picture results and web site results than Yahoo does. As well as Google normally gives you the sites you're looking for straight away without you having to go through a couple pages of results first.
You always hear people say "Google it", when do you hear "Yahoo it"?

They're probably equal concerning the search part, but I favor Yahoo. It's way more simple to use I think, and it has really cool colors. Plus, the homepage is way more prodigious than Googles, which means it's entertaining as well as informing. Unlike Google, which is just dull.

From my personal experience I would say Yahoo! It has many, and I mean MANY more functions and interactivity than Google, meaning shopping, music, email, movies, radio, news ...etc. Moreover it is the number one advertising service which means that much more search results will appear to you as every website pays a fee at Yahoo in order to get advertised in it because they know it is successful.

Yahoo tried to buy Google once, if that's any indication.
