Are out extroverted or introverted? That might play into your decision.
If you want to goto Florida, go ahead :) That way you are more likely to make new friends rather than solely rely on old ones. You can always come home for the breaks and your family and friends will be there. College is a time to explore, don't hold yourself back. And if you don't end up liking it, you can always transfer back to CT.
It is better to try it and realize it doesn't work rather than to always wonder if it would've worked out.

You are totally normal and don't be ashamed to feel like this! This is all a part of growing up, being independent, and moving yourself into a whole new environment. That's a lot of things to be going through at one time, and it can feel overwhelming. Of course you might be kind of shaky about the whole situation...but really, there is no need to be. If you feel that you would like to venture out to a new place to see what's out there, you should go for it! Many people don't ever even get this opportunity in their lifetime....so I would consider it as a blessing. Your family will always need you and you will always need your family. But, at the same time, you have to go out there and find out what you want to do with your life. I believe that the more experiences that you have with people and places makes you a much more well-rounded person. Then you are able to "think outside of the box" (if you know what I mean) and will be able to adapt to anywhere you may decide to move! I am sure that your parents will totally understand where you're coming from. You are a young woman now....not a little girl. I am sure that they will be more than supportive with whatever decision that you make. Please remember that they went through the same kinds of predicaments when they were your age. I went away to college and had a blast. I wouldn't have traded it for anything in the world. I promise you that it'll be one of the best times of your life, whether you stay near home and attend school or get away. Just talk everything over with your parents. I am sure that they will understand where you are coming from. Tell them that you're thinking about going away to school but at the same time, you're kind of nervous about doing so. There is so much out there to see and do and I cannot encourage you enough to try it....because I think you'll love it. Best of luck to you! Good to hear that you're trying to get a good education. : )

Your family is very important, and keeping them in your life is very important as well. BUT, you only live once. By you going away to FL, or wherever does not lessen the bond you have with your family. Although it will be less "in person", you still can have a strong and healthy relationship and live out your dream!

Personally speaking, I talk to all my siblings and parents EVERY day at least once., (Total 6 people) and I live away from home. What I love the most is being able to talk to them and when the time comes to go home and visit or they come to visit me, the time spent is way more valuable to me! :-)

Don't be afraid to take a chance.

Maybe you should go away to a University in CT. This way you will get the experience of living on your own but at the same time you will be close enough to go home on weekends if you get really homesick.

What kind of person are you? Do you make friends easily when you are placed in a new environment? Are you mature enough to handle the demands of daily life (laundry, eating and sleeping properly, etc.) that may have been taken care of for you by parents or others? Can you discipline yourself to study and do homework without parents, teachers, or other adults pushing you to do it, and a zillion other things to do that look a lot more fun?

You should go. Now is the time to get out there and experience the world. It is your opportunity to meet new people and try new things.
Going to college while living at home is like missing out on the college experience - it's more like an extension of high school.
Face your fears and pack your bags!

I'd go away. I used to think staying closer was better, but you can always come back. Part of the benefit of college is seeing the rest of the world, getting away from being too attached, becoming more independent.

Then you'll see opportunities you never realized were there. and you'll have two home towns to choose from.

Go away to college. You are a kid, dont let your family make you think you need to stay close for them, They will be okay. This may be the only chance you get. It a wonderful time in life for you. enjoy it.

I'd advise going away. At this point in your life, you need to take advantage of your youth and do what you can to get ahead. This may mean moving away from your family. Your family will understand this that you are trying to better yourself.

Well, it's always good to try something new and college is not forever. If you plan to come home during school breaks it might be good for everyone.
