A lot has been said about the blunders committed by Indian selectors, coach and off course the players. The first mistake was not choosing Kaif and Laxman for they were far experienced then some others included in the team. Secondly Rahul made some stupid mistakes playing his boys. In the first match against Bangladesh he opened with Veeru and his early dismissal put the whole Indian team under pressure. Winning the toss and not batting in the do or die match against Lankans was the lethal or I should say the mistake of his life. A team already under many kind of pressures can not be a good chaser. When I came to know, after the start of the match , that he had won the toss and elected to field first I told my Indian companion, Well Dravid has presented the match to Sri Lankan in a platter.

Yes instead of big hitters who ultimately perish for good ballers, they could have played V.V.X.Luxman.
And spinner Anil Kumble.
Lankans & rest of the International teams get used to
play off -spiners well.
One of the reasons they dont play as unit like Australia & Sri Lanka.
Chappel, Dhoni & Vengsarkar too can not save face from this ignominous exit from world cup 2007.
It' was clearly Sachin's turn to save India.
It was supposed to ...Sachin's world cup.
Furthermore it was only 250 odd runs to get....
Even big hitting Lankans got it by running between wickets.Indian hadn't had real anchorman.
We have solid facts for that.
Though S.L. beat india They still had to give their best ever performance..
When Uthappa and Ganguly walked in, India had a target of just 255 runs, on a wicket which had dried and gone flatter.
But nobody showed the determination to stay on, except Dravid. He should have come earlier. It was his flurry of fours off Malinga in one over that had raised the hopes of selfless Indian fans just for a while.
Any fair critc would sureto say that ,the turning point was Sachin’s getting out to Fernando, through the gate for a duck. That was a vital blow. India could not recover. The panic button was pressed. Whatever little chances India had went up in flames when Yuvraj was run out foolishly. There wasn't any run there.
Even in front of Bangladeshis Indians fell like a pack of cards. India’s strength was batting and given the proper conditions, their medium pacers and the spinners could be devastating. If not, their shoulders start drooping and the bowling goes haywire with all kind of experimentations. It could happen to the batting too.Any team they play they had those short cimmings.
Exactly opposite are Sri Lanka, except that their batting is as good if not better. Even Banladeshi young batters had much more conviction.Simmply Indian star batters failed big time.
Lankans & Bangladeshis ground fielding was just outstanding. And most importantly, they played in team spirit and not as individuals. Indians were selfish.
They cared money too much. And that’s the thin line that differentiated the two teams

Your observation is good. I feel Kaarthick should have played both against Bermuda and importantly against SL even at the cost of Dhoni. You also made a point of Kumble not playing against SL. Such strange decisions are taken by the best of captains sometimes. It is useless talking about it now

I am really surprised as to why Kumble was not included in the playing 11 against Sri Lanka. As far as Laxman is concered, though he is a very good batsman, his style of play is not well suited for ODI as he is a slow starter and also very slow in the field. Kaif was given enough opportunities to regain his form, but he failed miserably.
