Royal Enfield is a good guess, but unfortunately a wrong one. The earliest motorcycles in India were shipped in by BSA (Birmingham Small Arms Co.) in the 1890's prior to WW1. Over the next 30 years, BSA supplied the British Military bikes to India and were phased out when Royal Enfield took over the contract during WW2. Almost any bike in India prior to the 1940s is a BSA.

It's Coffee time with Royal Enfield

The oldest motorcycle in constant production - Royal Enfield is celebrating its 50th year of existence in India. This 100-year-old brand moved its production to India in 1955 after which the original British company folded up and this Brit-single motorcycle continued to live in the hearts and minds of a very passionate community of "Bullet" owners in India.

To commemorate this landmark achievement, Royal Enfield decided to create a Coffee Table book, which would contain visual imagery of the motorcycle in different locations all over the world, not to mention some of its most passionate owners. D'zine Garage was selected as the creative agency for this assignment.

60 days of travelling and photographing Royal Enfields in pouring rain and burning sun all over the country gave birth to "The Legend rides on" - a 150 page Coffee table book with some of the most exquisite shots of this wonderful machine ever photographed. The book was authored by Gordon May, a Royal Enfield expert and enthusiast from the UK. The 28th of October saw the launch of the book at the Birmingham Auto Show at the NEC Arena, which received raving reviews from all the motorcycling enthusiasts present there. The book is now on sale in the US, UK, Europe and India.

Divyesh, the Creative Director for this assignment is still in a daze and says that he does not want to see another Royal Enfield for the next few years. However he quickly adds that those 60 days were some of the best days of his life. The passion he had seen for the motorcycle in all the owners that he met was unparalleled and no other brand in this country would be able to inspire their customers as a Royal Enfield does.
