Well, I always found that a little bit of elbow grease goes a long way. A scrunge sponge and dish detergent works well. Another great solution for extremely bad stains - especially in a coffee pot, be it metal, glass or plastic, is kosher salt and a small tinch of club soda. Put about a 1/4 cup of kosher salt in the pot with about the same amount of club soda....swhish it around numerous times and rinse with soapy hot water. In a glass pot, you can see the stains lift off. Try it on your stained mugs too....sure it'll work the same.

Bleach will work on both plastic and glass. You will be able to see the effects immediately, Just tilt the mug so that all areas are coated, it will look like new. If it is glass, white vinegar will also work, but takes a bit longer.

Blot with a clean dry white towel or cloth. If it is dry you may want to use a carpet spray cleaner.
