Does anyone watch that and say, "hey lets go to the mall. I want to buy some shirts made with cotton."?

And what about milk commercials? How could that increase sales? I buy milk when I need it. A commercial doesn't make me want milk even more.

It's just each industry promoting itself, not necessarily a specific brand. You mentioned cotton & milk. I have also seen ads for beef (paid for by the beef council), plastic & remember the old "the incredible edible egg" ads? Or maybe I'm just dating myself!

They are just to keep that general product in the forefront of our minds. They know that in general people tend to be ad driven when they go shopping, even if it is only the back of our mind.

I don't think it matters so much that it's cotton or milk....I think it's increasing the profits of say Borden's milk or Hanes cotton. Just the brand promoting it's business.

if you notice, milk commercials usually show other indulgent foods that go well w/ milk....hence the desire to eat some cake or chocolate and ...........drink milk!

It doesn't matter what the business is, or the product, it's all about increasing profits.
