cubic zerconia is the way to go. it looks better and it costs less. if only women could resist conforming to stereotypical society, no one would die from diamonds, no matter the rate of people that do now anyway. plus a lot of guys could save money and spend it on things more worthwhile.

Social consciousness and responsibility have always been important. But its mostly talk...until someone wants something that compromises that principle. Diamonds are simply the 'cause de jour'. If you want to perpetuate that thinking, you must also include all those products from China that are widely available and cost effective...but were produced either by children or at the cost of an American job.
The bottom line, however disgusting it may be, is that people in a free world are interested in price first. Social responsibility is a great topic for discussion...but not many practice it. It would be too expensive and people would not be able to buy the things they really wanted, or felt they needed.

In most cases unless you are spending more than a few grand for a diamond, it is a laboratory manufactured diamond and does not fall into the category of "conflict diamonds". In other words, no one had to mine for the ones seen and purchased in local chain stores and malls. All diamonds in my opinion are conflict diamonds though because of the internal policies of the diamond corporations and their agreements with African countries where the diamonds are being mined. I lean toward the new trend of either tattooed rings or commitment jewelry to avoid having trouble sleeping at night.

Oil profits have funded more death than blood diamonds. In fact, oil funded 9/11. Do you feel that your a sick person every time you fill up? The whole Blood diamond issue came about shortly after it was realized that Synthetic diamonds (man-made Crystalline carbon) were indistinguishable from found diamonds and that had the potential for shattering the diamond market and DeBeers wasn't going to let go of their lucrative market. The certification process with laser etching is how they protected the market. DeBeers doesn't give a damn about morality or social conscience otherwise they'd be selling diamonds based on their real value not the emotional value.

Geesh. Leonardo DiCaprio does a movie about a diamond skirmish in a war torn country and suddenly vacuous, teen know-nothings are concerned that people aren't asking for "conflict free" diamonds when they shop.

Would you buy a car today if you knew 500 people were going to maimed or killed in one today? Where do you self righteous people stop at?
Sooooooooo, someone hands you a nice, big Diamond and tells you it's yours to keep for the rest of your life. And, you're going to ask them how many people died getting that diamond on your fingers????? Give me a break sick person!

I don't care what went into the products I want to buy. Let's see chocolate comes from the fruit of child labor. I suppose some people think that is wrong, why I'll never know. If people commit crimes in the pursuit of commerce, than the nations where these crimes took place are obligated to take action. Attaching guilt to luxury products is just a tool of anti-capitalist one worlders.

That's the way they want it. There is no limit to the number of diamonds available, but it's controlled to keep the price inflated and make it appear that they are precious; many tons of them are manufactured every year. Then that money is redistributed to the pharmasutical companies, medical profession, insurance companies and lawyers.

You're absolutely correct. My wife gets no more diamonds! Even if they say "conflict free", you never know for certain. May I refer her to you when she asks why?
