or

Im a high school senior and this gets me through it every time. Divide 4,242.00 by 100 and multiply the number you get by 22.

On a calculator you could also do 4,242 x 22 and then hit the percent key, NOT equals. You'd get the same answer, 933.24.

Follow a simple approach.
Take 10% of the number i.e. 424
Add it twice to make it 20% (424.2+424.2) 848.4
Than take 1% of the number 42.4
Add it twice to make it 2% (42.42+42.42) 84.84
Now add both the results (848.4+84.84)= 933.24
