CMOS battery is failing. This battery, similar to a calculator battery keeps the clock and other settings on the computer when it is turned off

On a PC, it is usually a CR2032 battery that can easily be found at a department store. To replace, unplug the PC. open the case. Touch any metal portion of the case to ground yourself. Locate the battery on the motherboard. Remove and replace the battery. Replace the cover. On your initial start-up, the settings will default, but will now keep them when you turn off your PC.

Laptop computers also have a CMOS battery. These batteries are proprietary, meaning only specific batteries from the laptop manufacturer will fit. They are also much more difficult to replace. Unless you are proficient at laptop repairs, I suggest bring a laptop to the repair shop.
