Stop Signs - please take a look?

I'm making a survey, so please take a sec of your time and answer this simple question. Thanks.

If the colour RED were not used in the red "stop" sign. What other colour would you use it and WHY?
Choices: blue, yellow, green, orange, pink, purple, black, white, gray, brown.

Since the color 'Red' has been used to indicate 'STOP' for a long time, changing it would be difficult. If I were to make a second choice, it would be 'Yellow' as it indicates Caution, the next to RED.

I'd say yellow or orange as they are brighter than the rest.
Blue would merge with the sky.
Green would merge with the grass and trees.
Pink is too girly for the male motorists.
Purple is my favourite colour.
Black is too dark.
White is too reflective of headlights.
Gray is too drab.
Brown is too tree like!

maybe orange?.. yellow wud be my first choice because its super bright and stands out... however.. theres alot of signs that are already yellow so some people would probably ignore them accidentally.

so a bright orange/amber would probably be good.

I'd say black, as the printed words are in white. The black and white would contrast so it would be easy to read the sign.

I would go with ORANGE, it is brighter than the other colours and from a distance you would see it better. =)
