Hi,I'm Fishy from KSA I want to ask about the Rome T.V series on HBO every Sunday. In fact, I saw the first episode and I shocked because it was full of sex scene and nudity which were very explicit, excessive and disgusting . I can understand if they wanted to show how the Romans felt about sex and nudity but there are far less graphic ways of showing this while still getting the message across. I felt the rest of the series was just being used as an excuse to show the sex and nudity. However, my question is why HBO did not mention that the series full of these scenes on its official site? are they
appropriate for Italian and British audience?

Thanx for your answers, but I did not mean that Rome series is bad or any thing like that ,what I meant is why HBO did not mention on its (((web site))) that series full of sex scenes ? Because I inferred that Italian and British audience may be different from American because they may be consider nudity and sex scene not (big deal) which do not need warning ... THANX for all of you the clarifications and I will see the Rome series in another version.

Hi again, I want to clarify something, I downloaded the series from NET by torrent I did not see the series on HBO because I do not have the channel and I think the warning should be both on channel and web site because the people who do not have the channel how they could know about these scenes if the official web site do not warn the audience who will do?! Thank you and I appreciate your answers

HBO got two version of "Rome" ready for broadcasting, one is tamer; that's what aired in Italy (at least on free-to-air TV). The result was both people lamenting for the excess of violence, others pissed off because of the censorship.
I think a few years ago there would been no great problem in airing the "longer" version, recently some parents associations and conservative politicians gained power and influence, so things are tougher. So somebody in Italy think products like "Rome" aren't appropriate for Italian audience, but actually that's not what Italian audience "itself" think.
Somebody these days want Italian get scared by sex, while they aren't.
Anyway, looking at audience figures the series was a failure.

Rome Sex Scenes

the show "rome" just wanted to present the way it really was during the roman times. it is not meant to offend anyone at all. it is intended for audiences that are mature enough to handle these type situations and are not bothered by them. if someone can not handle it, then they shouldn't watch the show, it's all your choice really. european tv shows are alot more "provocative" things on tv than the united states ever does anyway. so yes, it is appropriate for the italian and british audiences, and for anyone else in the world for that matter that enjoys the show.

also as a side note, this is not the first series hbo has aired with sexual scenes like that. it's pretty normal for hbo. that's why it's a cable station, they can air whatever they want. and hbo does a have a warning before all it's shows *including rome* that it airs if there is nudity/sex/violence/adult situations just like they do with the movies they air.

Rome is loaded with sex and violence. I noticed you did not complain about the violence.

The show was supported by the BBC and filmed on location in Italy. It the British or the Italians had problems with the show they had ample time to complain about it in production.

The show made no reference to the sex or violence becuse it was in all the tabloids and discussion groups, plus interviews that what the show was attempting to do was put forward a more historically accurate depistion of the culture in Rome at the time of Julius Caesar and Marc Antony. What you see as crude and profane they saw as acceptable and customary. This is video so you see what they are talking about and don't just take it for granted.

Also, the website is open to children so it would have been irresponsible to discuss in graphic detail what the show 's contents were. The show comes on at a late hour and parents are expected to supervise their children's veiwing.

If this was not your cup of tea then by all means do not watch the upcoming Showtime series The Tudors because they are going to be having lots of sex in that series as well. And don't watch Big Love. Avoid Nip/Tuck, Rescue Me, Dirt, Dexter, the Sopranos and pretty much every show anyone is talking about on cable because they are all loaded with sex and violence whichis why they are on cable to begin with.

And back to the violence, you are tuned in on a story were you know the main character cheated on his wife and was stabbed repeatedly in a public forum. That is in your history books. It is not that big a leap to assume there will be sex and violence in such a show.

Plus, there is a big warning before the show stating it contains both Nudity and Graphic Violence. They were not kidding.

If they didn't mention it , then they're being irresponsible and disrespectful of their audience. I too stumbled into this gross display unknowingly. It was porn IMO. I don't intend to censor anyone, but I would like a warning label so that I can choose what I put in front of my own eyes. I want the freedom to watch what I want and not be bombarded with trash that I feel is harmful.
