My computer has slowed down significantly because of junk and viruses I have gotten over time. I have pictures and music on my computer I that I would like to keep. Is it possible to partition those files off from the rest of the hard drive and then do a system restore to make my computer preform like it was new again?

A lot of pictures & music on your drive will clog it..

You can partition your drive (Making a D: drive for example) and then just move everything (Pic & music files) there.. And finally format or reinstall windows to your old C:Drive...
p.s. Just make sure you install windows on C: drive without deleting or partitioning D: drive again.. Leave D: drive ALONE during the installation..

It is simple..

Hope this helps & good luck :)

1. Why don't you copy all your music files/pictures/programs to another partition in the same hard Disk ? say D:/ E:/ etc or to a CD.
2. Then When you insert the XP CD it will not delete those files from D:
3. If your Original XP cd is old, and you have updated to SP2
You may have to format C: as the old version wont install.

Para Two : Once you complete step 1.

try some cleaning up. with a)AWC2 personal from http://www.iobit.com . Use the other tools also. b) ccleaner from http://www.filehippo.com Try issues
c) C:/ Properties disk clean up . If you are confident "more options"

d) Wise Registry Cleaner from http://www.wisecleaner.com
e) Defrag C: and other partitions .
These steps should speed up your computer

No. When you repartition, all files are gone.

If this path seems best, take the time to get all your files and music backedup on CD or on a Flash Drive.

THEN you can partition, format or restore.

Remember, restoring will return your computer to the condition it was out of the box. NO files will be saved.

Use Partition Magic for on-the-fly partitioning of your HDD. Then move your files and handle your business.

BE ADVISED THAT A SYSTEM RESTORE SHOULD NOT BE DONE AS THIS WILL NOT SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM ESPECIALLY AFTER PARTITIONING. A SIMPLE FORMAT OF C: AND REINSTALL OF XP WOULD BE BEST. THAT WAY, YOU START FRESH AGAIN AND YOUR FILES ARE SAFE ON THE NEWLY PARTITIONED DRIVE.

No repartitioning then restoring doesn't work. You need to run an antivirus and spyware removal programs . This will bring you back up to snuff.
