If you think that Harry Potter has anything to do with practicing Wicca, you need to read one or more of the books by S.M.Stirling in the Dies The Fire series, which is actually survivalist science fiction but includes a set of characters from the current time who practice witchcraft - in tune with nature and thus survivors.
Harry Potter is fantasy based on wishful thinking about a inborn talent and has nothing to do with a belief. People who spread the rumor or fight publicly for banning are silly and want attention and don't have any idea what a ceremonial belief really involves.

Where this controversy comes from is out of the fundamentalist Christian tradition. They have come out pretty strongly against any book, Harry Potter included, that uses any sort of magic or spirits or ghosts, etc. For them and their belief system, this does not lead one closer to God but rather it leads the mind away from reality, the world as it is and into a world the way it isn't and will never be.

Although I do not agree with this and have read all of the Harry Potter books, a couple times, I can actually see their point, from their perspective. I think these books are terrific entertainment and I have seen young people read them that will refuse to read any other book, so there's a great deal to be said for the Potter series.

As for Rowling being a witch, does it make a difference? I doubt that she is. But for me, a book, a painting, a poem should be weighed on its own merit. If we only accepted the art of saints, we'd have lost too much.

The authors (JK Rowling) use of magic and witchcraft in the Harry Potter series is meant as a literary and metaphorical device intended to communicate symbolic meaning and generate interest in the characters and the plot. This method is often seen in popular British fiction. Examples of other authors who used this literary methodology would be Bram Stoker, Charles Williams, and JRR Tolkien. As with the other writers, Rowling's intention is not to promote interest in the occult, but to examine the issues of human character and morality.

It is just a bunch of people who nothing about the book itself spreading lies. It has nothing to do with actual witchcraft at all. There are NO similarities even. I use to be a youth pastor and I did a great deal of research on the subject when the books first came out so I could appropriately answer the concerns of parents of kids in my youth group. JK Rowling was a poor starving mother trying to support herself and her starving child. She wrote the books based on stories she told her child and never expected them to become the phenomenon they have become.

DONT BE SILLY, HARRY POTTER IS PURELY FICTION THERE IS NOTHING IN ANY OF THE BOOKS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE GILDEROY LOCKHART CHARACTER THAT HAD BEEN HIGHLY OVER EXXAGERATED THAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE AUTHERS HOME LIFE, FAMILY, OR FRIENDS. NO OTHER CHARACTERS WERE BASED OFF OF REAL LIFE PEOPLE NOR WERE ANY OF THE IDEAS BASED FROM JK ROWLINGS REAL LIFE EXPERIANCES. SHE IS A GIFTED AUTHOR WITH A AWESOME IMAGINATION. PEOPLE SAY THOSE THINGS ABOUT HER BECAUSE THEY ARE JEALOUS THAT THEY COULD NEVER HAVE COME UP WITH ANYTHING AS GREAT AS WHAT ROWLING DID.

A PRACTICING WITCH, THATS CRAZY!!!

No that's BS. JK Rowling is a a devout Christian. Her books are for fun and have nothing to do with actual witchcraft. I should know, I'm a practicing witch.

No! She is NOT a witch. In an interview once she even said that she didn't BELIEVE in magic. She wrote those stories with teaching in mind and knew that they would get kids to read, which they did. Also, all the names and "magic words" in those books come from either mythology or latin.

Even if she was a witch, which she is not, who cares. The books are great and should stand on their own. These are just rumors from haters. Especially the overly religious crowd.

Not at all. JK Rowling is a wonderful writer and some people do not like her books so they say things like that. However, people just need to admit that they don't like the book. They do not need to go around telling bad rumors about JK Rowling.
And anyway, even if she was do we really need to know about what she does in her privet life? How would you like it if everyone knew what you do?
