Because it was from your work, they probably installed Microsoft Office on there for you, along with other programs you might like and find handy. If you don't have the disks for these programs, then you will lose those also when you reinstall the operating system. Also, if you don't have a system disk for the operating system, like a Windows XP disk or a system disk that came with the PC that installs a version of Windows, then you won't be able to install a new operating system on it.

Here are your options:

If you have the operating software disks and the software disks of the programs you like then you can wipe and reinstall everything.

If you just have the operating software disks, then you can wipe, but likely lose microsoft office and other programs that you may have become accustomed to. Office is an expensive program that can cost from $250 - $500 dollars depending on the version.

If you have neither, I would suggest that you go back to your old job (if you are still on good terms with them) and ask the IT department to give you local administrator access. This will allow you full control access to the computer you are using. Only they would be able to do this because the computer was set up originally for their network and their login should be able to work with your laptop and they would have the right permissions to change these settings.

You need the original CD that came with the computer. Just put it in and start the computer and follow the instructions for re-formatting the hard drive. Not sure how to do it without the CD though.

You need to reset your laptop to factory settings, ie.reboot.

Before you do though, you need to find out if it had windows, (if that's what you run on), pre-installed when your company bought it. If it didn't then you would have to buy a copy which could be quite expensive.
If it was pre-installed then when you reboot it will be on there and that's about it. Then all you would have to do is re-install the things you want.

Go to Start, then Programs, accessories, control prompt.........
This will bring up a box with the C:\ prompt.
Next to the C:\ type......... format C:/s
That will format your C drive and leave the OS on there. I am assuming you want to keep the operating system on the computer. Good Luck.

Boot your laptop to the Operating System CD and reformat/reinstall from there.
