I don't think this is one of those things that the United Kingdom should rush into. I believe the U.N. should hold a trial for the 15 officers that were obtained by Iranian forces. If they are found innocent, I think Iran should be held accountable. If they are found guilty, than the Captain of the boat should be held accountable.

That being said, nobody knows the "facts" about what happened there, only the parties involved. I see people jumping to conclusions about Iran doing some great injustice, but they might be telling the truth. But so could the British officers. I think we should let the courts decide.

I see that most of the answers are from the brain dead Yanks or their friends. The problem is that it is not known where they are. If in Tehran well just think, how would you find anyone in London without the help of the locals. Unfortunately the navy should have stopped the Iranian boats when they crossed the border, surely a missile destroyer or frigate is capable of that.

However if the rules of engagement mean that third parties are not be fired on that rather ties their hands doesn't it.

A missile to Tehran is more likely to kill all 15 than get them back, the answer is for all British troops and military personnel to be withdrawn to Britain where they should be.

First off, there is no doubt about the location. On Sunday, the Iranians released the coordinates of the location the hostages were taken. It was 1.7 miles inside Iraqi waters. They amended this on Tuesday, moving it 2 miles East into Iranian waters but the cat was out of he bag, they were in Iraqi waters. Second, the Indian merchantman that had been stopped by the sailors has stated they were in Iraqi waters. The Iraqi fishermen have said they were in Iraqi waters. So, everyone says they were in Iraqi waters, even the Iranians initially, so why should there be any doubt?

Well first we should get our sailors home before anything else !, I wonder if the Iranians would have tried the same had it been a big war ship and not tiny patrol boats in those waters ??.

Unfortunately you cannot solve this problem without a lot of bargaining with people that hate us and I am glad your not in charge of the button.
It is also quite distressing to know that there is a lot of our own citizens that are rejoicing at the situation and support our enemies. I just wish we could get our forces out of the area.

I don't think the Iranians will harm the captured British troops because they know all hell would break lose. I hope they are safe and hopefully they get released soon but I doubt the Iranians would kill them because they know America & Britain will invade Iran.

The empire was never great you Muppet-empires are all evil.

And if we start attacking Iran they will start killing hostages. This has to be settled with diplomacy and apologies from our military for entering their waters.

Because Britain subscribes to the same FHAS* philosophy which governs most of Europe's defense plans.

I'm surprised to read you're tired of talking I think the rest of us are tired of war and bloodshed. As to why we don't do anything about Iran, we can't. All our troops are either referring the civil war in Iraq or fighting the US's enemy in Afghanistan. As you say our Empire WAS great, but no longer exists.
