Yes, it is actually very common. One place in particular it is used as a healing tool. As one goes through the process of AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) one of the steps that can be used, although it is not always used, is for the recovering alcoholic to find a mentor or listener and they will share with them every single thing they can remember about their life. I've been the listener for this and it takes hours and hours and hours but when it is all done, something very special has been accomplished and healing begins. It's a great process.

The problem as I see it, and this is for me being a little older, is that if a person is aware of their life and their life circumstances, and not everyone is, it could take forever to do this. If I were to sit down now and ask someone to listen to everything I remember, yes, it would take months or years! Perhaps it all has to do with how much of the spirit of a writer do we have in us? Do we love to tell stories and take our time and describe things or do we just block things out and say "I can't think of anything"?
