The areas you are referring to are the Central African countries like Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone etc.
Nothing like that is happening (or has ever happened) in South Arica.

The diamond industry in South Africa is very well regulated, so no blood diamonds from there.
However the De Beers (of South Africa) group do have their hands dirty form a lot of seedy dealings in the aforementioned territories and so do a lot of American companies who while they were supposed to be upholding sanctions against South Africa they were instead buying up most of the diamond and gold mines in South Africa.

Blood diamonds was a good movie but it´s important to do a little research as well to understand the situation more fully.

When buying a diamond make sure that it and it´s source are registered.

South Africa is not a conflict zone so your info about the diamonds coming from there because of violence is inaccurate.

Yes, SA DOES have diamond mines (the best quality diamonds in the world come from there), but the sources are legitimate and all diamonds go through the Kimberley process.

Conflict diamonds are bought and sold illegally via conflict zones (e.g. Sierra Leone, Congo, Ivory Coast, Liberia, etc - which are NOT in Southern Africa).

The only way u can ensure that your diamond is conflict-free, you have to insist that the diamonds you buy are not sourced from conflict zones (legitimate diamonds come with certification).

I was unaware when I got engaged and married, if I knew at the time I would have asked for sapphires.
