If by existentialist you mean Someone who sees individual human beings as having full responsibility for creating the meanings of their own lives, then I am one.

I do not see life as having any built in or intrinsic meaning. I think that life has only the meaning that we ourselves give it. No more , no less.

My children may be seen in many ways by others, even as an annoyance. To me they are precious and the focus of my life is to be the best father that I can be. This has become my life's meaning to me. To others this may look foolish but to me it is more worth while than any other aspect of my life.

Love and blessings Don

Yes I do consider myself an existentialist (of the atheist variety) Because like Sartre I do think that human existence precedes human essence and that we all make up human nature as we go along.
I believe that is the dignity of man that we were not created toward a set purpose as a chair is planned and created to be sat upon. We all have to (or get to) work it out for ourselves.

Yes, I am an existentialist.
I believe the both the goal and the means to get there are important. Sometimes the choice is not so easy... but I believe we should take responsibility for our thoughts and actions. That includes righting past wrongs, accepting praise for what we've done well, and speaking out against injustice.

I work in a hospital and I have to continually ask myself: am I treating these patients the way I would want myself or my loved ones to be treated? Or, am I taking a shortcut in my own self-interest? The thought of that question usually leads me to the right choice.

Depends.

Do you consider the boundaries of Existentialism and Nihilism to overlap? If so then I would say yes to you... and if not then I would say no. In either case it is down to your judgement alone.... is merely a label influencing no aspect of what I actually am.... AND I wouldn't give a toss in any case.

You could decide I am a pink petunia and it would make no more difference than deciding I am just another human meatbag.... nnother speck of carbon-compounded material in a subjectively massive and objectively worthless Universe. I don't care either way.

But yeah... I take responsibility for my own fate in as much as I can. That is to say nobody else is going to.... though ultimately it doesn't make a shred of difference as it all ends in Nothingness irrespective of our intents.

Most people are existentialists because the world does exist even if it is only our minds that precieve it. It is what we have to deal with because death is very real and the world will kill you if you try to ignore it.
