Depending on the books, I read 2 a week and sometimes 2-3 books at a time. I'm not a magazine reader unless in a waiting room and newspapers are nothing but opinion pages anymore. I get my news from the Internet mostly from different sources. I also have a very in tune and intelligent circle of friends.

Republicans read, magazines and newspapers. We also write best selling books and write magazine and newspaper articles.
We are free thinkers who have arrived at the same conclusion after the free exchange of ideas and debate. That is a far more formidable force that democrats who all devour the same propaganda are told what to think and are issued the same talking points.

I think your words about forming an opinion are the most key. It is foolish and irresponsible to watch the news or read the newspaper and take them at their word. It is necessary to apply logic and your own beliefs to them, and form your own opinion.
Blind following of one or the other party is equally foolish. It is impossible to find any that truly represent your ideologies...so it is necessary to listen to ALL sides, so as to make the decision that is best for you. Thats where it all falls apart for me in America. People join a political party and follow them loyally. They make excuses for bad behavior and justify wrongful actions. This should NEVER be tolerated...by either side. How can we hold our politicians up to higher standards and how can we improve the quality of our leadership if we allow and justify such betrayals as we've seen over the past few years? Both Dems and Reps need to be open minded about their party and the other. Realize that each leader will take the party in a new direction...and your loyalty may not be well served...

Another weak attempt to discredit the opposition based on silly hyperbole. Having a different opinion on matters does not make someone less informed. Generally it means they have reviewed the information and reached different conclusions. This is the nature of politics. There are indeed people who are uninformed and just parrot something they have heard verbatim, but it is not specific to Republicans, there are many Democrats guilty of the same. I am going to provide you the benefit of the doubt and make the assumption that you like informed discussion. If this is indeed the case then I would make the suggestion that you try engaging in some in order to receive the same in return because this question does not even come close in that area.

Republicans are not apples. One rotten one in the bunch doesn't ruin the whole barrel. It is only our beloved commander in chief who refuses to see or hear anything that doesn't go with his plans. That is why he only watches Fox News.Republicans in all quarters are at a loss with how to deal with Bush. Some just plain don't have the backbone to stand up and still others have given up.So hoorray for the ones that listen to the people who pay their paychecks...US.

Yes I do read Time and Newsweek and I enjoy reading about the positives that come out of Iraq like all the schools we build and water we get to people that didn't have it before. It seems like the Television is too focused on the violence and never talks about the positives. Even during WW2 when we were losing a lot more soldiers, the news did a better job of reporting positively. It just seems like the TV wants us to fail in Iraq.
How am I getting thumbs down? He asked a question about opinion and I answered it as correctly as I could about my own opinion. Do democrats base a right or wrong answer on what their opinion is? That doesn't seem right.

I read all of the above plus glean information from various news sources on the internet.
And that is how I formulate my opinion.

Of course, but the difference between us and the liberal hacks is that we go to reliable sources that present both sides of the issue, and back up what they say with some facts and proof. We don't just sit there like a bunch of gullable idiots and believe everything we see or read. It has to make some sense and mesh with what we see and hear happening with our own eyes and ears.

Of course Republicans read. I'm not a Republican myself, but most Republicans are intelligent and well-informed. Most people who take an interest in politics and current affairs are very well-read.
