Well, they will have sex with or without the shots, the over-prescription of medication is epidemic, and I agree dangerous to the well being of our population. I wonder what society (at least western society) would be like, if there was no pills, and everyone was just themselves....

Well, for one thing, if the parents aren't going to talk to the kids about sex, how are they going to know the parents think it's wrong? Most kids know it's something they should abstain from, but if the parents don't say the disapprove, kids are going to take that as a message that the parents either don't care or think it's okay.
First, I don't know any doctors who would give a child a birth control shot without a pap smear first (I am a nurse) and discuss the options with the child and parent for birth control.
Second, while the shot may make some people gain weight, not EVERYONE does! My daughter has been taking it for a year and she has actually lost weight!
Third, I don't think many doctors will give children diet pills! Most will discuss diet and exercise with them and tell them that they, like 2/3 of America, need to get up off their butts and exercise, and put down the fast food!!
And lastly, any form of birth control can be dangerous--not just the shot! The pill, the IUD, Norplant, and even condoms can be dangerous (yes, condoms if someone has a latex allergy!).

You know whats really wrong is this abstinence only programs that the government has forced onto schools. Do you know that studies have shown that abstinence only sex education programs work but only to a certain extent. On average those in the abstinence only programs wait 6 months longer to have sex than those not in the program. But when they do have sex it isn't protected. Those in the program were recorded having 25% more STD's and 33% more unwanted pregnancies than those not in the program. Those within the program were not prepared or knowledgeable about the STD's that they had or what to do or where to go when they were pregnant. So what does this program tell us? Yes waiting is effective...but only if you want to get pregnant and have an STD.
The truth is that kids are going to do what they want regardless of the parent's wishes. You cannot supervise your kids 24/7, not in this era. So I would think it would be more responsible to protect your child against a life long commitment such as having a baby or a devastating disease such as an STD. Teaching them about being responsible when they do have sex will go a lot farther than simply saying dont do it.

I as an adult find it sad. Thinking back though I had my daughter 3 days after I graduated high school. While now as an adult I wish I would have waited to ever have sex. I was 14. My parents did teach me abstinence, but I chose not to listen, as most teenagers do. I went with the peer pressure, I only hope that I can teach my own daughter better. If she chooses not to wait. I do want her to be informed, on all matters of sex... birth control, teen pregnancy, STD's. I may scare her into never having sex, but I want her to know all of the facts. She will know what I went though and the sacrifices I made with being such a young mother. If I know that she is having sex, or even think that she is, I will put her on birth control, I do not want her to end up having to make other life changing decisions when she is such a young lady with her whole life ahead of her. Once you are pregnant any choice after that is hard and life changing.

Kids don't use other birth control methods, at least this way they won't be bringing children into the world that will go thru life resented and by a mother who herself lacks the proper financial resources and personal character development to properly rear a child. Too many children today view a baby as some sort of trophy. I concur about the moral framework of Amerca has crumbled, but I even advocate administration of the shot to welfare mothers that continue to have children they cant afford.

Since when has society had a moral framework? That is pure fantasy. But I guess you could argue things have gotten worse, which is true (some things that were unacceptable have become the norm), but there hasn't been good morals here since, ever (there was never a time when this society has been upright).
Anyway, it is beyond sad. It is pitiful and a disgrace.

Yes I think it is terrible. I guess the only thing is it might be worse if they fell pregnant. It is really hard. If they are going to do these adult things but not be responsible about it by either waiting until they are older or using condoms then it is probably good (though still sad) that they get the birth control shots.

This particularly is a tragedy however truthfully the mum do not need allowed her thirteen yr ancient daughter so far anyone that was once 19 (I recognize I would not), allow on my own enable the fellow to reside with them. This would were avoided if the mum had set her foot down. I recognize she did this to avoid her daughter from strolling away however to inform the reality I believe that the daughter is not so blameless both. In the top the woman would have ended up useless when you consider that she desired to run away and if she had run away with this man then he could have killed her. The woman then bought what she desired (so far this man) however ended up breaking apart with him when you consider that he was once controlling and the jealous kind and he ended up capturing each her and the mum. If the woman hadn't threaten to run away then this would were avoided too. In the top it was once the mum's fault (so as to talk) however I believe the daughter is partly guilty too.

its sad! If your talking about the shot that is going to be mandatory for 7th grader or 8th grade girls, I think that it should at least be optional for the girls decision. When they know they are sexual active they can go get it themselves. They wouldn't have to tel their parent because they are already trying to make it a must do situation. As far as anorexia the population is full of fat kids. It more help full than harmful.

Why by this age they are having sex. Where are their parents. It is not a game to get into sex at such an early age. I remember that at this age we did have other activities and we did play all sort of Innocent games.
