This is what I do to kill those crazy banshee:
Evade them, go side to side, then fire your weapons(preferably pistol for better accuracy) or plasma rifle directly(plasma rifle has a slowing effect on the enemy) his killed then

Rocket or a tank/warthog. Outside Halo2 where you can lock-on with the rocket launcher its hard in Halo. I just remember running to the next place I needed to go. Outside those three things its pointless to waste ammo on something you dont really need to kill.
