Depends upon how much the disc has 'slipped'. Doctors generally classify discs into bulging and herniated. Bulging are generally easier to treat, herniated are another problem.

As long as the disc wall heals and scars up well, it can take 10-12 weeks. You need to avoid the movements that will aggravate the disc. To establish what these aggravating movements are and to get good advice, consult with trained physical theapist.

In my opinion, chiropractic does not help and you become reliant upon it. It can also cause nerve damage which cannot be repaired.

We are trained in the most researched method of treating disc problems. It really can help a lot and I use this method with all my disc patients.

There are also a lot of 'fake and bake' physical therapists who are not McKenzie trained. They will not be able to help your problem.

Good luck!

I have two prolapsed discs in my back, OUCH.

I have been off work for nearly two months, have been told it will take at least another month before its even close to right again.

Chiropractic help can do a fair bit, but try Polartis classes to strenghthen the weakened area.

Everyones different and so's the time to heal.
It sucks though, never known pain like it, forget broken limbs an that this is ridiculous, couldn't walk for the first two weeks. : (

It used to be a couple of weeks in traction. It depends how badly it has slipped though. Ask you gp.

Find a registered massage therapist, physio therapist or chiropractor. Surgery should be the last option.
