I had the opposite...I desperately wanted to break a bone and get a cast. Until I did, and I was a bus driver and someone noticed I had a cast and I was forced on a six week "vacation." Maybe you are just afraid of that happening to you. It is kind of unnatural, having a big white (or hot pink, in my case) THING instead of a limb. People have phobias about everything and anything...I am afraid of some plants, afraid they are going to attack me, because my friends shook them all over me when I was a kid. Now I can't even look at them.

most irrational fears (and obsessions) stem from childhood expeirences. Was someone in a cast when you were younger and maybe got more attention than you? Were you in a cast and remember how it felt? I have a similar reaction when looking at burns. I go all queasy. I can look at open bleeding wounds all day but burns make me sick. /shrug
