Hello,

(ANS) YES!! there seems to be a huge number of torjen horse infections doing the rounds across the internet at the moment. I've had the same problem myself with trojen horse.generic downloader.

**NOTE: Trojen horse infections like this are picked up because your web browser security settings are probably on the soft side i.e. you need to tighten them up.

**Trojen horse infections inject themselves direclty into your MS Windows\system32 folder normally. They do this in the blink of any eye, in seconds so even if you know its installing itself theres nothing you can do too stop this. Apart from blocking via the browser settings.

**Make sure windows XP system restore feature is turned off, as this will almost certainly be where it tries to hide itself and then once the system is restored so is the trojen.

**TIP!! make sure you delete the trojen horse infection from the virus vault. Next rescan your system immediately, once you feel confident its gone. Make sure your turn off the system restore which will prevent future infection.

**Make sure file downloads & Active X controls & plug-ins are disabled from the browser settings.

**Make sure you have updated your AV program.

**Make sure you have some good anti spyware software installed, such as :-

a) SpyBot Search & Destroy (freeware)
http://www.safer-networking.org/

b) Lavasofts AdAware SE (freeware)
http://www.lavasoft.com/

c) A2Squared (freeware)

Hope this helps?

You do not say which Anti - Virus programme you are running.
Some tell you to highlight the virus in the Vault then empty the vault. Others tell you to delete and Restart your Comp.
Try disabling sytem restore > delete virus > restart system > enable system restore. This could be your solution.

You should disable system restore and clear your c:\windows\precache folder (this holds files that are cached to let programs start faster) then run antivirus again.

If that does get rid of it, reboot and press f8 when prompted to right after you turn on your computer and choose boot in "safe mode". Then run your antivirus and it should be gone.
(then just restart to return to normal windows mode)

Good luck!

You may need to switch off System Restore as back up files may be hiding in there, and it will just restore itself. Go to Start - programs - accessories - system tools - system restore.
Run your anti virus and anti spyware in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode repeatedly press the F8 key after the bios screen loads but before Windows loads. You'll know if you made it because the screen will be at 800 x 600 and your pc will be slow.

Its easier to prevent malware getting on to your sytem in the first place rather than trying to remove it. All the following programs are free for home use;

You need to install one firewall. The Windows firewall doesn't stop malware on your pc from dialling out.
