I was curious if it's possible to by a DVD Burner for a laptop that didn't have one built in already? I know you can for Desktops and just install it yourself but I didnt know if it's the same for laptops. If so, what's the price range and model I should be considering?

Your best bet is to go to Dell's web site and search under the model number of your laptop. Most of Dell's laptops, or at least in the last few years, have easily removable CD/DVD drives. There should be a rectangular button on the lower right corner of the DVD tray when it is closed. If you push that button it will pop out and all you have to do is pull it and the whole drive will slide out. If your is designed this way, it will be easy to replace it with a burner. But like I said first, best bet is to go to Dell's site, or call tech support to ask about your specific laptop model and if you can do it, they will be able to tell you what you need and how much it will cost.

PS. ONLY remove the drive when the machine is shut off!

yes, u can, buying from dell will be your first option if price is not a big issue. it can cost up to S$200 to 300 for a dvdrw.

alternatively, you can source from local pc mart (eg: simlim sq) for a compatible model. its hard to say which model will fit in, so its best to bring the drive or even the laptop down to the shop. compatible drdrw drives should be around S$150 to 200 for new ones.

i replace the cdrw on my compaq laptop to a dvdrw at S$170 on feb 2007, in SLS.

you should have an app put in already, like NERO or winDVD or some thing, already setup on your computing device...and that is help menu will teach you concepts to burn a dvd, or a cd, for that count number number...you'll opt for to purchase some sparkling dvd discs. any video clips you receive on your not ordinary stress, you may move to a dvd disc...some thing from you tube to finish length function video clips
