Back in '41, FDR said we had declared war on Japan and the Axis powers. It was an official congressional declaration of war I guess. Did we do that with either Iraq or Afghanistan or the Taliban?

This is the closest to a declared war since WWII.Congress did approve it.

Yes and no. Although Congress didn't actually use the words "declaration of war," they authorized the use of force to invade Iraq and depose Saddamy, which could be construed as a declaration of war. The Constitution says nothing about the language Congress uses to declare war.

Yes, we did declare war on Afghanistan and Iraq. They were both brought down by Congress and was signed by both Republicans and Democrats alike.

No. The followed the War Powers Act, which wasn't in effect until the 1970s.

yes of course, and all our congress backed the president, but that was then, and this is now.
