Diguettes are embankments built into the earth along the contours of a slope.They allow water to soak into fields as it flows downhill,and prevents erosion.
It's an ancient practice of terracing-planting in steps cut into slopes.
The practice is used a lot in dry countries and they are constructed so that the land is more fruitful for their crops.

To improve on the local techniques of building small dams called digguettes. The lines of the digguettes are easy to make by using stones or building a retainer wall with concrete ( the modern way ) ususally holding back water. Digguettes is a French word. The correct spelling is Digguettes.
