...I mean the smock tops and pinafore type dresses? I think they are just horrible!! They're shapeless and inelegant and just not very sexy! I can't wait for this trend to be over....

To Littlebethan - if I was a "sheep" as you put it, I would be wearing the trend of smock dresses. I'm just expressing my opinion that I don't like them! Is that okay with you????

I have to agree with you wholeheartedly on that one. I do not like the current smock top and pinafore dresses in garish colours and huge print. I don't think they are elegant.

I think the fashion is ok at the moment and you can adapt certain styles to look good on your shape - ie: wear a smock top but put a belt round your waist so you don't look shapeless. Apparently the folk style is coming back in fashion this summer so I think smocks may be here for a while, along with maxi dresses and extra small mini skirts for the very brave (and long legged!).

I've always loved pinafore dresses. I think they are very flattering and can be dressed up or down (they look fab with a little cardy or shrug)
Smock tops I've always been dubious about but actually have seen quite a few very lovely ones in the shops near me. Lovely colours and not too shapeless.
However I am LOVING the long shorts with turn-ups which have just started appearing everywhere. Fab for going out for long walks etc in but still wanting to look nice!

Smock tops I can take or leave ,but pinafore dresses I love. Two things are a must, wide shoulder frills and long ties for a big bow. Try matching a long sleeve mens button down shirt with a feminine pinafore dress.

After travelling Australia this last year spending all my time in summer wear and flip flops, I was looking forward to getting back into the UK fashion but have to say bit dissppointed at the moment.
Styles have become rather untidy and messy. I love mixing and matching colours and textiles but find that many people might be going a bit OTT and even choosing things for sake of fashion rather than what suits them best. I have always been one looking for original ideas but when i see girls out now, they look like they have just thrown on something from a big old jumble sale. Its such a shame because being funky and classy dressed now just seems not cool and a little old fashioned.
Hun it sounds like you got your fashion style sussed and know what you look good in - I admire that. x

The smock tops, I am not that crazy about. Although like someone said previously, a belt may help to add some definition to it.

I wouldn't wear them myself, but I have to agree with michael, they are very flattering for a larger shaped woman. He is right: the majority of people in the UK aren't size 8, though they do want to look good. By wearing them you can hide your buldges whilst giving the impression that you are slim-ish, which is important in today's image-focussed society.

You should wear what's looks good on you and not follow fashion too closely.
There's nothing worse than seeing the fashion victim whose just seen something on the This Morning fashion segment and off she flys off to Primark to buy it regardless of how it looks on her.
And haven't you noticed how crop tops and leggings never go out of fashion on run-down council estates?
