What makes you feel good? That is a remedy, to do or think or feel what makes you feel good. For me it can be music with lyrics and a beat that helps me FEEL my feelings/emotions. I have found that 'doing' something like reading or talking with friends watching a movie...etc...something to get my mind off of the depressing thoughts or feelings can be helpful.

If you don't want to feel better - and these are the real bad days, i find that going beyond my current thought, exploring the 'why' i feel this way has often conjured up questions that when i give myself the time, i come up with my own answer to my problem or understand myself and my depression better so that i can see the 'up' side of it. It's not necessarily the positive side but it is usually interesting and original to me and therefore makes me feel better. Perhaps not happy but in some way content. I feel that understanding my feelings is the key to not becoming overwhelmed with feelings and thus depressed. Best wishes to you.

It's acutally been proven that sometimes a little bit of chocolate does actually make you feel better, but you don't want to sit on the couch and eating yourself sick. That certainly will not help. When I get depressed (I suffer from bi-polor) I like to take a walk with my puppy, or play with her. I like to actually clean, since the moving around gives me endorphins and i've done something productive. I also do a lot of community service, find a local pet shelter, a food pantry or soup kitchen. It brings your spirits up and makes you thankful for what you have, or makes you feel like you have purpose. Hope this helps

...stay busy with yourself your friends your neighbors and your lovers. Sitting around being depressed about stuff only will lead you to more anxiety about all the stuff you have no control over anyways. Be realistic in your values for yourself. Unfortunately anxiety and depression creates mental visions of unrealistic proportions in some folks. These people need good therapists and sometimes medications to correct their own thinking here reasonably. You are in control of everything that happens to you and with yourself. Don't blame anyone else for the crap that happens directly to you otherwise. Get real folks. Live for today in the present moment. Life is gonna be filled with allot of em truthfully. Make your own good outcome by thinking positive regenerative thoughts. No one else creates these things for you directly....you create it all by yourself.

try to know yourself so you'll know what makes you happy. And if you know what makes you happy, then try to do it when you are depressed. Try to do recreational activities with your friends which will make you busy and which will make your thoughts away from the thoughts of deppression.

The natural depression remedy supported by the strongest evidence is St. John's Wort extract. Over twenty controlled clinical trials have shown that high-quality St. John's Wort effectively relieves depression. In fact, studies comparing St. John's Wort to prescription antidepressants (including Paxil® and Prozac®) demonstrate that it works just as well as these drugs, but with fewer side effects. With this in mind, most people should turn to high-quality St. John's Wort extract as their first choice for a natural depression remedy, starting with a dose of 600-900mg daily and increasing to 900-1800mg per day if necessary. According to the research, only St. John's Wort extracts that are standardized to contain 3-5% hyperforin effectively relieve depression, so don’t settle for products that aren’t standardized for hyperforin or standardize only for another, less important compound called hypericin. Also, keep in mind that St. John's Wort usually requires at least three weeks to begin working, and may not produce its full effects for a month or two.

Another natural depression remedy backed by scientific evidence is SAM-e (S-adenosyl-L-methionine). The research behind SAM-e isn’t as strong as the evidence for St. John's Wort, but it is nevertheless promising and suggests that SAM-e may offer certain advantages over both St. John's Wort and prescription antidepressants. SAM-e works quickly, and most people start noticing improvement in days rather than weeks. Unfortunately, the active dose of SAM-e, 800-1600mg daily, can cost $100 or more per month, making it far more expensive than other natural depression remedies.

5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) is a third natural depression remedy shown by clinical research to treat depression effectively. 5-HTP, an amino acid, allows your body to increase levels of serotonin, a mood-related neurotransmitter, in the brain. Low serotonin levels have been linked to depression, and many prescription antidepressants work by increasing serotonin activity. For most people, taking 50-300mg of 5-HTP per day helps improve mood in just a few weeks without causing side effects. Some websites discuss concerns over the safety of 5-HTP, but these misconceptions are unfounded. In fact, 5-HTP has an excellent safety record, and extensive research has shown it to be one of the safest natural depression remedies available. 5-HTP is a good choice for a natural depression remedy when used alone, but it may work best as a natural depression remedy when combined with St. John's Wort.

Other popular natural depression remedies include herbs such as Ginseng and Ginkgo, amino acids like l-tyrosine and phenylalanine, and certain nutrients including B vitamins. In general, the evidence behind these remedies is still inconclusive, although Ginseng and Ginkgo have been shown to work as natural depression remedies in the elderly.
