Silver Dollars can be quite the jumpers. When a fish is new to a tank they are uncomfortable and on top f that other fish are checking them out which makes the new fish extra nervous. It's not a big surprise that they would want out f that situation. Just make sure your water is clean, all of the fish are well fed and the cover is always closed. This should help prevent a repeat of the problem in the future.

Fish will sometimes jump out of the tank... I have had many varieties do that, from goldfish to louches. The only way to prevent accidental escape is to keep a hood or top on your tank so that there's no way for them to get out.

It may have been surfacing after a mote of dust or a bubble or something, and accidentally propelled itself out of the tank.

It's probably because it's new to the tank and evironment. I hope you rescued it in time. My tank came with a hood, but after I punched out the spaces to install the filter and heater I was still left with a hole about 2X3 inches. I just taped a piece of black fabric across the top of the hole and so far it has discouraged anyone from jumping out.

i think i had a fish do the same thing. im not sure why maybe its just cause they dont understand that there is no water on the other side of the glass and once they jump out its too late.

Fish can jump out of the water when something startles them- it doesn't know that it is in a tank of water and will end up outside.
