Let me give you the background on this question... even though the disrespect many of you show tells me you are here to feel better about yourself by insulting others, and not to learn and share.

This morning, the news had a story about an Asian woman getting her eyefold altered. They discussed the reasons. Vision was not one of them. But in searching for why anyone would want this done, I naturally wondered this. Is it all cosmetic, or is their another component to it besides apparent cultural disassociation implicit in having your racial characteristics altered? The voice-over said as many as 15% of Koreans have this procedure done; I think that was the number. Amazing.

It wasn't intended as a racist taunt. If you took it that way, you must go through life fighting every day.

Well I commend you for being brave enough to ask this question. Although some people may think it is stupid, I think your willingness to ask questions is a good indicator that you are willing to learn about the differences of others. It was also a valid question of curiosity which you asked in a manner respectful of the uniqueness and the people.

To the person that answered, "I am not chingy eyed", way to go! You are one of the greatest perpetrators of slurs! This is really shameful especially since you are Asian yourself.

To the one who answered 'the fold developed to protect from snow' this was a great answer. Educating people about differences helps to create understanding and breaks down barriers. However you don't have to be so angry in the process. I don't believe the poster was being disrespectful by asking this...

LOL no, it doesnt limit your vision. I'm half American half Japanese and happen to have big eyes even for American standards so I'm not speaking from my own experience, but all my Asian friends have perfectly good vision. The thing about the cosmetic surgery is that alot of Asian women wish to have bigger eyes and look more Western. It's purely a cosmetic thing.

The only part of your eye you need to see is your pupil and the inside of the eyeball. So if the pupil isn't covered up, someone can see.

Does your brain limit your thinking in any way?
