My guess is that one day CDs will be phased out and people must buy and download their music from the internet. I can't really see a successor. If there is, I'm hoping it's on an 8cm optical disc, so that there can be smaller portable players...

They say forever, but it has been proven most CD's don't last longer than 15 years at most (Store Bought, Glass pressed) They develop CD bitrot... which if you find older CD's flip them over and you see tiny little cracks in the disc that is the coating and data breaking apart from age.
