A black cat

red sky in morning, shepherd's warning. Walking under ladders brings bad luck. If you see a penny pick it up and all day long you have good luck.Don't put new shoes on a table as it brings bad luck. Do not open an umbrella in the house as this brings bad luck. If you spill salt you pick some up and throw it over your left shoulder (can't remember why but I think it has something to do with the devil)
God there are loads more but of course I can't think of any right now.

My great-grandmother knew a lot of weather lore, apparently, and my mom passed some of it down. The red sky at night was one of hers, but it was "sailor's delight. Red sky in morning, sailors take warning." Also, if the moon is a crescent and is pointing "up" so it looks like a cup, it means that rain will not fall, the moon is holding it up. And if there is a ring around the moon, rain will fall. (If it is both, like it was last week, well, it didn't rain. The ring around the moon has a scientific explanation, even.)

There is also a list of omens about crows/ravens. If you see so many, it means one thing, and another number means another thing. I read about it in a Terry Pratchett novel (-:. Several different versions out there apparently. One version: "One crow for sorrow, two for birth. Three for wedding, four for birth."

There are the wedding "omens" too -- something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.

In the UK black cats are considered lucky - in Europe and the USA they are considered unlucky.
The only superstition, not necessarily an omen which makes sense to me is the one about walking under a ladder.
Although for some reason I can't explain, I'm a bit twitchy about seeing a single magpie.
