Because they are really ugly, and plane. You cant express your individualality in them. My family has money, and I like being able to wear Abercrombie clothes. It can't just stop there though, then it would be the shoes we wear, then the jewelry we wear. But I don't treat people differently if they have had the same shoes for 4 years or whatever.

It says that the first amendment is privledged and not a right.

That being said, I think any argument for school uniforms is going to be a challenging one to debate. View the bill or rights and maybe do some research about kids in schools with uniforms. Look for facts that negate the idea.

Personally, I'm for uniforms but I'll try to argue the other side of the debate.

1. Because if poor Johnny has to wear a uniform and look like everyone else, his individuality will be stifled.

2. It's too militaristic.

3. It's too expensive. And do

they have to be dry cleaned.

4. They're ugly.

5. Mary will never learn to color coordinate or have a sense of fashion.

6. My children refuse to wear uniforms and I never make them do something they don't want to do.

I think they compell normalcy and conformity. Here in Chicago, this is used as the great equalizer- it's supposed to cut down on the jealousy and violence in schools that all the kids are dressed alike, but it really doesn't. Kids will be kids.

Also I resent having to buy two new sets of clothing every school year. One for school and one for not school. Waste of money.

Uniforms don't allow us to express who we are through how we dress. It makes us all the same.

I think a lot of people feel it hides their individuality.
I noticed kathy said she never makes he kids do something they don't want to. I think she's the reason our world is so screwed up today. People HAVE to do things they don't want to, it's part of life. Allowing your children to be delusional about that fact is only going to hurt them in the future. So, you just expect them to disrespect their boss and refuse to do an assignment just because they don't want to? Teach them responsibility and respect. Your children might stand a chance in this world. People like you shouldn't be allowed to have children.

I agree with Kathy S. I'm for them, but she does give the lame arguements used against them.
