i was told that the alienware is better, mainly for video games for the fact that that is the same computer that they use to make movies like CARS and TOY STORY. So the graphics card must be bumpin

I would go with Alienware or Dell. Gateway is not the best for gaming. Alienware was bought out by Dell about a year ago.
I have used several Dells over the years with great luck. Take a look at them and look through the coupons at http://www.24houredeals.com/Dell-coupons-23-mer.html
Good luck.

Avoid Gateway as they have quality issues (they outsource everything as they do not make their own systems), Alienware is owned by Dell (purchased them last year) and Alienwares quality has slipped big time (just check out any tech forum, such as www.Maximumpc.com) Dell is a budget leader, they are not cutting edge and do not innovate. I would go with Voodoo PC, Falcon Northwest or Velocity Micro. All of which are much highly rated, and regarded. then the three you are currently looking at. Falcon is the most expensive of the vendors, even their "budget" system is more expensive then most other vendors high end systems. I would even look at Cyber Power. You can't lose with any of these vendors.

most dell branded PCs are not very good for gaming, Alienware branded things have a focus on gaming and I have never heard of gateway :S all depends on what you intend to use the computer for...
If its office type work then pick a Dell but if its gaming go for an Alienware...Just a note...Dell PCs use older technology and you have to buy the upgrades for them to be up to date

As for a gaming PC I had the same choice to make a while back. I shopped around and looked at a lot of computers. The problem I saw with store bought PC's is that they use a lot of lower end hardware, unless your ready to dish out a lot of $$, then you find some fairly decent PC's.
I also looked on line at a few places that sell computer hardware and cases and found I could build my own PC at a much better cost and get the custom hardware I wanted that would provide me with a really nice gaming system.
As for hardware knowledge I joined an on line forum for people who have a lot of PC knowledge and could help me understand the hardware. I read reviews on motherboards and video cards. Here are a few good places to start.
